How old exactly is Taemin from SHINee?

I have been watching the newest SHINee show called Shinee's One Fine Day (Wonderful Day) and they have said Taemin was 21. There is only a year difference between the both of us (with him being born in 1993 while i was born in 1994) how can he be 21 while i am 19? Can someone please explain this to me.

This is how you work out your Korean age. Basically you take the age you'll be on the 31st of Dec and plus 1 year.



Taemin was born July 18 1993 so right now his international age is 19, but on the 31st of Dec 2013 his international age will be 20.

So you plus 1 year to 20 years and you get 21 years.



you can also do it like this.

1993 = 1yr old

1994 = 2yrs old

1995 = 3yrs old

1996 = 4yrs old

1997 = 5yrs old

1998 = 6yrs old

1999 = 7yrs old

2000 = 8yrs old

2001 = 9yrs old

2002 = 10yrs old

2003 = 11yrs old

2004 = 12yrs old

2005 = 13yrs old

2006 = 14yrs old

2007 = 15yrs old

2008 = 16yrs old

2009 = 17yrs old

2010 = 18yrs old

2011 = 19yrs old

2012 = 20yrs old

2013 = 21yrs old



But it takes longer lol

In korea, there is a rule- people start out as 1 year old when they are just born, meanwhile in the US or anywhere else (I think) people start out as 0 years old. Koreans take into account that a fetus is still a living being even though not fully formed and not really human yet, but still those 9-10 months in the mother's womb is time used to nourish it, and so should be treated like a human with an age count, by rounding the months up to 1 year. So!



In the US, if you're 19, he would be 21 counting his birthdate.

In Korea, they count one year more than american countries because they count the year you were in your mothers womb.

ALSO, (a lot of people forget about this) in Korea, whatever month you were born in doesn't matter. When a new year starts, you are automatically one year older with everyone else!

to completely avoid confusion, to get a person's age in korea, you just subtract the person's birthdate year from the current year. so 2013-1993, and then add one year from that (the year u were in your moms womb). so it is 21.

In Korea everyone is a year older than US people. Because they count the year you were in the womb. so really he is 20 by our standards. Hope this helps! :)
