Korea is approx 3 times expensive than Malaysia. Their currency is Won and it is counted in thousands. For me I just omit the thousand (10,000 Won would be 10 Won for me). It is quite the same as USD10. In the eyes of Koreans, 10 Won is like how we see RM10. Hence, you can roughly imagine the things that would cost us RM10 here (McD set meal, an umbrella, a t-shirt in a gift shop, etc) would cost 10,000 Won there. But because of currency exchange, you have to pay 3 times more afor the things that you want as compared to Malaysia. Nevertheless this doesn't cover the things that can easily be found in Korea but not in Malaysia (ginseng, beer, ciggarettes are cheaper comparitively) and vice versa (coconut milk, palm oil, petrol, etc is cheaper in Malaysia). Hope you get what I mean.

From what I've heard, living in Korea is ridiculously expensive. 10,000 won is roughly equivalent to $10.

it depends where in korea. If it's in a major city like Seoul or Pusan, then it's not gonna get you far. It can get you a good deal of food at a typical middle of the road restaurant or a couple of rides in the subway or a cheap t-shirt?

Just think of it in terms of US dollars, what can 10 bucks get you in the states?

The only thing that is cheaper is food 10000 won is approximately $10. What can $10 get you here? And you have your answer.

dudnaito is incorrect about the cost of the subway. A subway ride is usually under 2,000 won, and usually close to 1,000 won depending on how far you are going.
