Do Korean people pronounce ''nega'' as ''niga'' or is it just me?

I hear 네가 as 니가,, Should I also pronounce it as 니가?

They are actually different things.



Nega (naega, correct romaji) means "I" (subject form).

Niga (taken from "neo" + "ga") means "You" (subject form).



"-ga" is simply the indicator that the word is in the subject form.



So it might be that when you think it's "nega" that is being used, they actually just means "niga", and you think it's wrong. I had trouble with this too at first, so I think it's normal to be confused at first. ^___^

(가 (ga) is relatively not important here because it is just a subject marking particle to place emphasis.)



Korean unfortunately does not have different sounds for 내 (My,I) and 네 (Your, You) . Both have the same sound of "Ne".

So the same sound can mean “you” and “me”.

To avoid this Koreans pronounce 네 as 니.

when speaking. You usually won’t see 니 in writing, but in speaking 니 is very common.



Haha they aren't doing hip hop when they are saying Niga. In fact, they are actually saying you are...

To sum up, Niga means you are, Nega means I am.
