I was just curious, since stars like Rain and Lee Min Oh are so famous in Korea, but you never hear about them praising Korean-American celebrities like Sandra Oh, Jim Lee, etc. For example, on the MTV Movie Awards, Rain won "Best Badass Star" and there was a frenzy about that. But Ken Jeong, a Korean-American" won an award, nobody seemed to talk about it at all.

Will they recognize you at ALL if you are an American?

Yes they do. Like Jay Park. And Dumbfoundead.

But not like Sandra Oh, she's whitewashed. ;;; And more American inside.

Simple. No need to go into detail. Unless you mean Korean-American as in Americanized, not just having US citizenship.

They generally favor Korean stars that have ties with Korea. People with a Korean identity. Sandra Oh, Ken Jeong, Jim Lee, etc do not. They are mostly American at heart.

I have no problem with the Japanese people, but I am appalled that Japan has not apologized to the Koreans, Cambodians, Phillipians, and the Chinese people for their atrocities during WWII. Generally Korean-Americans do not hold as strong a resentment as other Koreans, but every person has their opinion. From personal experience with an exchange student, he told me that he has no problem with the Japanese people - he just has a resentment toward sthe government and the actions that they have not taken to make things right between Korea and Japan. You can never know what a person is thinking because every person has their own opinion, so this is from my own. I hold no prejudices against Japanese people (American-Japanese, Japanese) but I do have a resentment for the government, like my exchange student for their non-existent actions.

Well it's not a problem of like or dislike. They actually like Americans. Generally, they'll think of Korean Americans who don't speak fluent Korean OR those who committed crimes in the US as Americans.

They value the looks very importantly especially for celebrities excluding comedians. In case of Sandra Oh, she's not considered beautiful in Korean beauty standard. It's not like they don't like her. It's just that they're not interested in her. I think it would be the same for Jim Lee and other actors.

For example, Daniel Henney a half Korean with Korean mother and American father, is considered very good looking in Korea and therefore he is very popular in Korea even if he doesn't speak Korean fluently.

Koreans in general have no reason to care. If English does not have anything to do with their University entrance exam, or with their future career, then it is irrelevant to them.

Since Americans perform in English, they are mostly off the radar in Korea.

maybe because koreans have a stronger bond to the country as opposed to korean americans...for instance im chinese-american but my classmates treat me differently from the asian immigrants who come here to study.

Hmm, good question. I, myself, am a Korean born in the US. I never seemed to mix well with the native Koreans. =\
